Babies love to mimic their parents and baby signing is a great way of communicating with your little one before he can actually say what he wants to say.But many parents wonder why they should teach their baby Sign Language if their hearing is just fine. Isn’t that introducing something unnatural and unnecessary? The answer is NO. It is perfectly natural, more than most people realize and the benefits are amazing. As for me,Im intrested in baby signing programe.
Although children typically begin to express themselves with words between 12-18months of age, you can know their wants, needs, thoughts and feelings much sooner than that through the use of the Baby Signs Program.Nah you can do it at home too.All we need is just a tolerance..
By teaching your baby to sign, you allow them to share their needs, thoughts, feelings and memories before they even have the words for them. Your baby will no longer have to point, grunt and cry to express themselves but instead can now use their hands, face and body to share their world. It is amazing how a few simple gestures can make a big difference yeah!So far,he never cry if he wants something from me.
We started teaching him baby signing when he was 5 months old.During the process,Ryan(at 8months) can now perfectly signs :
1.'Hug'-Raised both hands up,so we must immediately pick him up before he throws a big tantrum
2.'No'-To shake his head in refusal,so you dont ever force him then ;)
3.'Hungry'-Tuck his tongue in and out then butt his lowered head on mychest. He will stop doing that sign if I offered him milk/foods.
4.'Sleep'-Scratch my shoulder and the other hand rub his own eyes. When I saw this kind of sign,I will immediately bring him to his bed.He will sleeps soundly after that :)
5.'Attention'-He will shout and spank the floor with cheeky smile.Amazingly,he will stop doing that sign if I offered him kiss.
6.'Wave good bye'-He can waves good bye.
7.Excited-Clap his hands
In Progress:
1.Accomplished-Perfectly high 5
2.Yes-To nod his head affirmatively
And still more to learn specialy reading phonics, flash cards and alphabetical visual..
Sounds very simple right? But it is not easy actually. All we need is some patience and a little endurance. As for me,it is a good start for Ryan to learn more before he can talk.Good job, son!
